I’ve had quite a lot of costumers ask me recently about making bows for bustle dresses. Since bows are THE Victorian trim this tutorial will work for most 19th century garments.
This video tutorial will show you how to make one up quickly.
Use any size ribbon for these bows. Or cut strips of fabric. You can tuck the raw edges behind and underneath so they won’t show.
Be creative too. Here green satin fabric was sewn into strips that were then looped up, tacked together and covered with a narrow strip. This arrangement was all hand sewn together making it look like the fabric was tied and the loop is holding it all together.
Have you made ribbon bows? What costume will you add them to next? (Try a bustle dress!)
