Now that’s an interesting idea!
Back in September a call went out in a pattern testing group I’m in on Facebook. It was for a subscription sewing box full of goodies like fabric, a pattern and notions. Sure! I’ll try that out.
Full disclosure: the gals at The Sewciety picked me, among several others, to send a complimentary box to for review and sharing. Here is my review of my experience with receiving the box of sewing items.
Now, I had no idea what to expect from this box. As the end of September rolled around and we came into October, Sheena and Kizzi started posting sneak peeks of the October Box items on their Instagram page. Ah! Looked so exciting!
My box came – oh what a box! That itself will make nice storage for those random notions floating around the sewing room.
Inside was a nice card with sewing tips as well as a code to get that month’s PDF pattern – Classic Shell from Winter Wear Designs.
Then came all the notions! A nice variety and quite useful things. I mean, we can all use another seam ripper, right?
(My secret hope is that they come out with another subscription option of a notions-only box. That would be so cool!)
The bonus sewing project for October was a travel pouch. I LOVE the floral fabric for it! The lining, interfacing and zipper, along with the pattern, for this mini-project was all included, too. Fabulous!
At the bottom was a good length of Pattern Ease or Easy Pattern which is like an interfacing but is most often used to trace out patterns for longer-lasting use.
And last but not least was the two yards of designer fabric that one can use for the full PDF pattern included in the box. The cotton fabric is of high quality – soft hand and good drape like a thick cotton lawn.
Although, I’m not sure this particular modern print fits with my personal taste. As I was in the middle of my Live unboxing video on Instagram I got the idea of using it for a 1920s dress. So then Janet of Decades of Style DM’ed me that she had her revised 1920s Fringe Dress pattern out that week. And bless her, she sent me a tester copy of the pattern to use. (Thanks so much, Janet!)
Overall, The Sewciety subscription box is worth the value. Purchasing the items individually would be around the same cost as the box (in my opinion) – but without the great box for storage. A smaller, notions-only box would be quite fabulous for those of us who already have too much fabric or prefer to purchase fabric on our own.
But, if you are a subscription junkie or want to do light sewing on a regular basis I can see this box being a GREAT treat to inspire you and get those creative juices flowing.
The box includes free USA priority shipping, and I know they’d love to ship international if they get enough interest.
Thanks again Sheena and Kizzi for the box and allowing me to review the experience. 🙂
For another look at the box and its treasures for the premier month, below is the Facebook Live video I did October 11, 2018.
