In honor of Christmas week, I want to celebrate by showing you how to make a ribbon rose.
Perfect for a gift package, wearing in your modern hair, or adding to the side of a mid-19th c. bonnet! 🙂
Although you can’t finish this one quickly, you *can* make it during a fantastic mini-series like Wives & Daughters or Daniel Deronda (this taking into account that you will stop working to admire the dresses and be engrossed in the story).
This particular design is from Camela Nitschke of The Ribbonry. A few years ago I purchased a (rather expensive but lovely) kit from her website. It was such an awesome design I had to have it.
Her books are splendid, although simple and “country” –type designs. They make great companions to Candace Kling’s book. Both authors’ books are fabulous resources to refer to multiple times when creating ribbon flowers.
I’ve used several designs and ideas from their books, including creating this fabulous trim on the shoulder of an 1877 bodice.
Because this ribbon flower tutorial is photo heavy, you’ll find it on its own tutorial page. Be sure to let it load fully to see all the detailed construction  pictures. Enjoy!
Have you made ribbon flowers? What did you use them for?
Excellent instructions! Thank you!!
