Goessl…..an Anna Plochl dirndl.I have a large bi-seasonal wardrobe of Austrian clothing (Sportalm, Goessl,Moser,Tostmann,Bauer, Lodenfrey, etc) , and have often worn my traditional clothes, not the dirndls, rather ‘Kostueme’ to work.Coco Chanel based her original jacket on the ‘Austrian janker & spencers’ she observed when spending vacations in Austria. Anyway, yesterday started embellishing an Ausseer dirndl my son bought me as an Easter present 2 years ago…had not yet worn it as it was for me too short…so I have lengthened it.Great to have found this site…

My heart bursts with joy at floral prints and color and IN COTTON. Hello! I’m the Cotton Girl, are you one? And the small prints and the stripes and the plaids and, and, and…… And you can combine them into beautiful ensembles!! No choosing just one but THREE (plus one for the lining if you wish) to make your heart happy. […]

I just completed my first me made dirndl for our local Oktoberfest. I found a Laura Ashley Cotton/linen Home Dec fabric on the clearance racks at my local Joann’s and it worked beautifully! I flat lined it with cotton duck and used satin blanket binding to make a faced hem for the skirt. My embellishments were piping for the neckline and armholes, and then I added hand sewn frogmouth ribbon trim. I’m still looking for my ‘perfect’ pattern, as this one was a frankenpattern of Burda 7443 and FolkWear Austrian Dirndl with many many modifications. I used a Youtube tutorial to sew the skirt, as I wanted pleats but couldn’t understand the Burda (non)directions. I really want to make another dirndl for the holidays., and use a lace for the apron.

There’s some lovely dirndl designs out there with more modest hem lines and necklines and less “Oktoberfest” styles. I love that dirndls can span all ages!

Truthfully, being young, I lowered the neckline a little and used a white eyelet embroidered skirt with a full 5 yards to swing.
Not being that young or a size 4 anymore, I will use my more matronly lines, and still love it.

Yay! And that’s a great idea, too, with the home dec fabrics.
