It was the standard wear back then after you couldn’t wear your skirts anymore.
Try the Past Patterns wrapper pattern. It’s essentially a robe but trimmed out properly it can look very much like a nice dress. My CW group (HCA) loves are wrappers for early mornings at events. So after your baby arrives, it’ll still be useful at events.
