The March 2016 class will be the last I personally host with a Facebook group. Later this year I will open it up for anyone to take at any time just as those other classes you mentioned. We are making room in our offerings for other Bustle Era classes. 🙂

Or is this the last time it will ever be available?

Hi Halina,
In the class we use a foundation skirt, overskirt, and basic bodice patterns by Truly Victorian. You do not have to use those patterns but if you already have similar in your stash you can use what you have. The TV recommended patterns range from $10.50 to $14.50 each.

As for fabric, cottons are wonderful and the cheapest material you can purchase for class and still look good. The underskirts take a minimum of four yards, the overskirt a minimum of 2 yards, and the bodice about 2.5 yards minimum. Yardage also depends on if you will use fabric to make trim such as ruffles and bows and such. Trim are extra, of course.

It is also recommended you have undergarments already at hand: chemise & corset required, drawers, wired or stuffed bustle or bustle pad depending on the Bustle decade you want to sew, and petticoat. If not in your stash or plans to make these items can be purchased from various vendors.

Because this project is so varied with students, that’s about all I can give you on specifics. To save money search out thrift stores for sheet sets for fabric and trim. Use coupons at fabric stores. Pull from your stash.

Hope this helps you a little!
Jennifer

Thank you, Halina

When I was younger, the family joke was that I was born 100 years too late (I’m a Baby Boomer, so that puts me smack dab into the Victorian era). I have been restoring a 1962 Yellowstone camper into the Victorian mansion that I always wanted and never got. It’s a slow process, but I’ll get there. I’ve got enough things already to have my friends dub me “The Duchess.” Lady Rose (camper) is well enough along now that I think a Gibson Girl blouse and walking skirt are needed to go with her. But we’ll see. At least I know where to come when I’ve finally ended the restoration and can start the sewing!

Hi Meg. We will run this class again probably late spring or summer 2015. Watch this page for when registration opens (about 3 weeks before start of class). Also, our newsletter list will always receive at least one email notification when each of our online classes open for registration, so sign up there for another way to be notified.
Thanks for your interest in the class!
