At this point it is only for women’s wear for clothing items, but I do have a hand stitches class that is a basic skills class for any sewing. I’ve considered menswear classes in the past but those projects have not panned out due to various reasons.

My daughter is interested in Victorian fashion and would like information on a beginning class that you have. Please send information on the starter class and what equipment she would need to complete her projects. Thank you very much.

Hi Kate!
You definitely want to start with undergarments. One, this gives you sewing experience of different types of garments but also gives you the foundation to making all the pretty dresses that go on top. I’d recommend my Victorian Undergarments online class as a good place to start. We cover the most basic pieces of chemise, drawers, petticoat as well as a wire bustle for the 1870s & 1880s fashions. Then jump into a making a corset. Once you have these items you can move forward with more intensive garments like skirts and bodices. One thing to remember – keep moving forward despite your mistakes!

Cheers,
Jennifer

I’m very interested in learning how to sew costumes but am not quite sure where to start? I’m a beginner sewer, what would you recommend as your most supportive, informative class for beginners with a passion to excel in costumes? Many thanks!
